The release policy for the JOIN products is as follows:
- major release: in this update we release new features. A major version also contains all the bug fixes and minor improvements released since the previous major version. We expect to release 1 to 2 new major versions every year.
- patch (minor release): This update only releases bug fixes and minor improvements. A patch is part of a major version (a patch is released on top of a major version). An example:
- in January 2020 the new major version will be 2020.1. 628 released (2020 is the year, 1st month and 628 the version number). This contains all kinds of new features and bug fixes since the previous version)
- A monthly patch 2020.4.628 will be released in April 2020 (2020 is the year, 4th month and 628 is the major version to which the patch applies). The patch can be installed on top of the current major version (2020.1.628)
- In July 2020 (fictional) a new major version 2020.7.629 will be released with a lot of new features. This replaces all previous versions (so both the previous major version and patches).
- a new patch 2020.8.629 will be released in August 2020 (fictional). This can only be installed if the major version 2020.7.629 is installed.
- Hotfix: A hotfix is only provided for a high priority incident. For example, when an organization cannot work with (a part of) the application due to an error in the software or an acute security risk. If a hotfix affects all installations of JOIN Case & Document, you will be notified of this in an email newsflash. We will list the most recent hotfix on the release page of the relevant version.
