JOIN Case & Document version 6.25 was released at the beginning of April 2019. This list has been updated as of April 9, 2019.
¶ Introduction
Below you will find all information regarding the quarterly release of JOIN Business & Document (version 6.25). In this release we focused on the further development of JOIN Decision making, the redevelopment of the Workflow designer and a lot of stability improvements. In the meantime, we are busy with the further development of our new platform JOIN Mobile / Desktop.

¶ Descriptions / Highlights
¶ JOIN Case Types / Case System
Since the previous release it is no longer possible to manually remove parts of the case system, such as case types, profiles / roles, etc. This has revealed a number of errors that we have been able to fix. The integration layer between JOIN Case types and the business system has become a lot more robust.
It may therefore be that there are parts in the case system that should no longer exist in the case system and that cannot be removed. This is a mistake from the past (it shouldn’t happen again), we will be making a correction tool available for the correction in the course of March. If, after installing 6.25, you still run into parts that you cannot remove yourself, you can create a ticket for this so that we can deliver the tool to you (as soon as it is available). Thanks!
¶ JOIN Decision-making
We have again worked hard on the further development of JOIN Decision-making, a solution within JOIN to which we attach great value. With action 95871 we ensure that the PDF for the proposal and decision list is always generated with the same font / size. In the past, several customers have requested to improve this, as there is still a lot of text being copied / pasted from, for example, WORD.
In addition, we have improved the stability of the process when reopening or returning the proposals. We have received reports of this from a number of customers. reverting the proposal or reopening a completed proposal should now no longer cause the process to stall.
The biggest change (already announced in the latest Case Types release) is the expansion of the number of decision-making routes (action 95832) that we can now support in the solution. We do this in combination with the following 4 configuration options in the decision-making configuration:
- Approval yes / no
- College / Board
- Secretariat
- Decision maker
For each option mentioned above, there is the option to allow / disallow it in the process. Suppose you want to skip the approval, then you choose the following (example) configuration:
- No approval
- Board for administrative approval
- Secretariat for monitoring / agenda setting
- Decision maker for recording the decision
This then leads to the following process: preparer draws up and submits -> Board decision agrees or discusses -> secretariat puts the proposal on the agenda -> decision maker takes the decision -> preparer takes note of the decision (and continues with the case.
Because the settings can be configured independently of each other, it is possible to set up 16 (4x4) different routes. The diagram below shows which settings lead to which configuration of the process:

Note:
*: If no decision maker is configured, the “No decision” decision is always entered. The outcome of the college is then ignored

¶ Workflow designer
Our workflow designer was developed years ago in the microsoft technique “silverlight”. However, Microsoft is saying goodbye to Silverlight. In addition, Silverlight requires a local (client) installation and we (and you) want to get rid of that. That is why we have redeveloped the designer based on modern technology (HTML5). An important advantage of this is that local installation is no longer required, the designer can be used in any browser (Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer) and the designer can therefore last for years to come. Since the workflow designer already contains many useful functions, we have not redesigned the designer.
The new workflow designer is still in JOIN Admin and can be used from version 6.25 in all browsers we support (such as Edge and Chrome). Local installation of client software is no longer necessary.
During development, we naturally tested very carefully on different scenarios and in various browsers. Nevertheless, it cannot be ruled out that we have overlooked an issue. Please report this to our support department and we will take care of a follow-up. As a backup we will continue to support the silverlight version in version 6.25 (in internet explorer)
For the facilitator
If you want to use the new workflow designer in Internet Explorer, make sure that the new setting “Use Silverlight designer in Internet Explorer” is set to FALSE. You can find this setting in the JOIN Config Editor (JOIN server). In other browsers the new designer is automatically loaded in JOIN Admin, this setting has no effect there.
¶ Feedback
We think it is very important to hear from all users of our applications what they think about it. JOIN makes them happy, absolutely great! They are not happy with JOIN, also great! Because their opinion gives us (or you) the opportunity to improve things. And whether it’s an extra field, a step in the workflow or another view of the user interface, we consider all feedback to be valuable.
In order to handle feedback even better, from version 6.25 all feedback is received centrally in join support (where tickets and the wish forum are also located). With this we can follow up the opinion even faster and better.
Because we are saying goodbye to our current feedback tool, an adjustment has been made to the software and the feedback screen will look different (promotion 93863). If you cannot update to version 6.25 yet, we have a hotfix available for versions 6.23 and 6.24.
¶ Security
JOIN Case & Document and all adjacent parts are periodically and several times a year subject to a thorough security check. Security experts (both internal and external) actively look for potential vulnerabilities in the system. We immediately follow the recommendations that are made, so that we can guarantee that the product is safe.
One of the measures that we have taken on the advice of the experts is to further tighten the password rules. When we detect that the chosen password is not secure, the screen below will be displayed. A new password must be entered that is not easy to guess and contains at least 8 characters. “weak” passwords are for example “password” or variants of this (P @ ssw0rd is also too easy to guess), an algorithm determines whether the password is easy to guess. We recommend using a password that is automatically generated. There are various websites / tools with which a strong password can be generated.
In version 6.25 the rules for a strong password have been tightened compared to previous versions. For example, we now ask for a password of at least 8 characters (previously 6) and an algorithm is applied to determine whether the password is easy to guess. Common words such as “P @ ssw0rd” should not be used in the password in 6.25.
